When to visit Southern Utah

As you can imagine, southern Utah’s peak season of April – October brings visitors by the thousands to the region. Depending on your desired activities and destinations, it’s best to plan ahead as each national park has its own unique peak season that depend on weather conditions and number of visitors allowed.

Holidays are extremely popular times for visitors, so know that if you are a part of a crowd during this time, pack your patience!

The peak season of Zion National Park is from March-October, and visitors should be prepared for temperatures frequently in the range of 90-100°F. Early morning and late evening will bring lower temperatures, suitable for stargazing and fireside chats.

Bryce Canyon visitors will experience milder climate due to the elevated nature of the park, although visitors should still plan for average temperatures of 80°F during peak season of May-July, with nights dipping down into the 30-40° rage.

The less-frequented national park of Capitol Reef still offers soaring cliffs and colored rocks, with even milder temperatures consistently in the 70-80°F range during its April-July and September-October peak seasons.

Winter is also a wonderful time to visit! Again, be sure to plan ahead so you know what’s open and available, but also how to be aware and stay safe during the colder weather.
