When to visit Grand Welcome Big Island

Honestly, there isn’t a bad time to visit any of the Hawaiian Islands, especially the Big Island.  Its diversity and geography suits every traveler.

Normally Dec/Jan on the Big Island are the wettest months with most of the precipitation falling in Hilo. Winter months see evening lows of 66 degrees with daily highs of 81. Summer months the evening temps drop to 73 degrees and highs can reach 87. Hawaii has a consistent tropical climate, year-round.

The Ironman Triathlon in October is the largest event held in Kona. Otherwise crowds are usually pretty low in October/November and April-June. Holidays and summer are the busiest times for travelers and rates are higher for lodging and adventure tours and activities.

Whale watching is at its peak in March when calves are born. Dec-April are all good months for whale watching as they migrate back and forth from/to cooler waters up north.
