Hiking

Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt

Hiking in Colorado is an exciting activity anyone can enjoy almost year-round.  The Fall season offers breathtaking views while the leaves change from green to red & gold.  Later in the season, an early snowfall may even provide snow-capped mountains as a backdrop.  Spring and Summer offer vibrant colors as the wildflowers bloom across lush meadows. Please keep in mind the Rocky Mountains are at very high altitude, so pack some water and take breaks if you are not used to the elevation.  Here are some of our favorite hikes near our Grand Welcome Colorado rentals.

Berry Creek Trailhead

This 2.5 mile trail loops is great for hiking, trail running, and biking.  Any skill level is encouraged to try this path showcasing scenic views of Edwards.  We recommend trying this hike April through October to see the colorful wildflowers.

Beaver Lake Trail

A more intermediate hiking option is Beaver Lake Trail.  About 6.3 miles of trail leads through lush forests and alongside a rippling creek.  Hikers are rewarded at the end of the trail with gorgeous views of waterfalls and of course, Beaver Lake.

Lily Pad Lake Trail

Lily Pad Lake Trail is another fairly easy 3.3 mile hike.  The mostly flat trail enters Eagle’s Nest Wildernest and passes by a large beaver pond.  Lucky hikers may catch a glimpse of some wildlife here. After passing over a log bridge and gentle creeks the trail slightly descends into the shore of the lake.  You can choose to continue onto the second lake which is much larger and offers a view of Buffalo Mountain.

Breckenridge Fairy Forest

The Breckenridge Fairy Forest is a must-do for groups with small children.  Starting at the base of the Snowflake lift, the Sawmill Trail leads hikers alongside a river.  Take a right up a rocky path towards Four O’Clock Road until the lower path enters the “Fairy Forest”.  Hikers will encounter dozens of fairy homes composed of miniature fairies, gnomes, and mythical creatures.  We recommend taking a fairy of your own or making a house to leave in the forest.
