Biking

Mammoth Lakes is home to one of the most premier bike parks in the United States.  Mammoth Bike Park has 80+ miles of mountain biking trails varying from jumps, drops, and even beginner paths.  The park is great for both experienced and inexperienced riders.

Interested in learning the basics of mountain biking?  Head over to the Discovery Zone. The Discovery Zone has 3 beginner trails, an intermediate trail, a Skills Park, and a beginner-friendly lift.  Smooth trails and gradual slopes allow you to learn and perfect your biking skill at your own pace. If you are already a pro, fear not there are plenty of challenging and exhilarating trails available as well.

Family bike riding is a popular activity during the warmer seasons.  Several trails follow paths showcasing scenic mountain ranges and lakes in Mammoth.  The Town Loop Trail consists of a paved path and gradual hills. The trail is close to town beginning at Mammoth Creek Park.  The 5 mile trail passes through the breathtaking scenery of Mammoth Mountain, The Sherwins, and the White Mountains. The trail ends at Shady Rest – prepared with a playground, shade, and picnic area.  Enjoy lunch and some play time before biking back into town.

Free bike shuttles run through town offering a convenient way to travel with family and your bike gear.  Pick the shuttle up at The Village for a lift up to Lakes Basin. Hop off the shuttle at Horseshoe Lake.  This easy trail is a paved path, separate from the road ideal for families and young children. Another great alternative trail is taking the free shuttle from The Village up to the 1.7 mile trail loop around Horseshoe Lake.  This short ride offers shade and gorgeous views of the blue lake.

Have you checked into your vacation rental, but forgot your bikes at home?  Get Outdoors 365 is a great sporting goods store in town that will help you find the perfect bike rental ranging from E-bikes, mountain bikes, and comfort bikes.

Enjoy exploring the numerous biking options in Mammoth.  A friendly reminder to make sure everyone in your group knows how to control and stop their bicycles.  Mammoth is a bike-friendly town, but you will encounter moving traffic, other cyclists, and pedestrians.  Also be sure to grab a helmet when you are renting your bicycle – everyone in the family needs one!
