Hiking

Hiking in Mammoth Lakes is a fun activity the whole family can enjoy almost year round.  A variety of easy family-friendly hikes can be accessed through Mammoth Lakes’ free bus and trolley (leaves The Village every 30 minutes during the Summer).  During Fall, witness the vibrant leaves change from green to red & gold – and if you are lucky an early snow may cover the tips of the mountain backdrop. Spring and Summer showcase lush greenery, rich colored wildflowers, and crystal blue lakes.  We’ve put together a list of our favorite more-relaxed hikes anyone can enjoy.

Horseshoe Lake Loop

This 1.7 mile trail follows Horseshoe Lake’s outline.  Enjoy the views of the south side of the lake; dogs are often swimming and people lounging for a picnic on the shore.  The trail also leads into the lodgepole pine forest. Experience meadows, stream crossings, and bridges. Restrooms are handily nearby at all times.

Agnew Wildflower Loop

The trail loops is a short 0.6 mile hike offering scenic views of lush meadow and wildflowers.  This is a great stop after or before the more challenging hike – Rainbow Falls Trail. Agnew Wildflower Loop is flat making for a great stroll while viewing the various flowers.

TIP: Try this hike during late Spring!

Convict Lake Loop

A popular 2 mile trail loops around the shores of infamous Convict Lake.  The trail follows sagebrush and passes gorgeous pine and aspen trees. Mt. Morrison and Laurel Mountain sit beyond creating a dramatic scenery.  Bring your furry four legged companion on this one – leashed dogs are welcome!
