Fishing

Lake Tahoe is home to a diverse range of fish such as Rainbow Tahoe Trout, Mackinaw, or Kokanee Salmon. Taking a quest to the middle of the lake itself is a great place to start if you are an inexperienced fisher.  There are several charters to choose from that will provide equipment and take you out to the best spots on the lake.  Catch a Mackinaw year round while Kokanee Salmon are more popular during the summer.

If you’re interested in a more secluded area with true wild fish, try out the Upper Truckee River.  This Lake Tahoe tributary is only open July 1 – September 30 and is knowns for its wild Rainbow or Brown Trout fish.  As these fish are wild and not stocked, this area is strictly Catch & Release fishing.

A true outdoors enthusiast would also enjoy Taylor Creek.  While there is not always an abundance of fish in this area, during the Fall you are likely to see plenty of wildlife.  A Kokanee Salmon festival is held every year jam-packed with activities, food, and fishing information.
