A Guide to Lake Tahoe Hikes
Whether you are vacationing with family or enjoying a romantic getaway, there is a hike that is perfect for your group.
- Hike Horsetail Fall Trail to view the largest waterfall in the area. Start this trail at the Pyramid Creek Loop Trail and head towards the creek for a shorter trek. If you want the full hike, take the Pyramid Creek Trail.
- When you are looking for a longer hike, explore the Lola Montez Trail. The lower trail is well marked and is a six-mile round trip hike. Explore the creeks, rocky hills, and tall pines in the woods as you work your way towards Lower Lola Montez Lake.
- Located inside the Heavenly Ski resort is the Skyline Trail Hike. This trail is perfect if you’re visiting with your kids. After taking the Tamarack Express chairlift, explore the roughly two-mile hike with views overlooking Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley.
- If you’re up for a challenge, get your hiking permit for the Mount Tallac Trail. This hike is over 10 miles, and you’ll work your way towards the top of the tallest mountain in the Tahoe basin. You can purchase your permit at the self-service area at the beginning of the trailhead.
- Lake Meadows Interpretive Trail is a quick 1.2-mile roundtrip hike that is perfect if you’re hiking with small children. Explore the path full of wildflowers that takes you through Tahoe Meadows.
- Work your way towards the summit of Mount Rose on the roughly 10-mile round trip hike. This is the third tallest peak in the Tahoe Basin and gives hikers views of the basin and Reno on a clear day.
